SVFPC (SIRUMALAI VEGETABLE FARMERS PRODUCER COMPANY) has been formed and registered with the vision of establishing a community where small ad marginal farmers and Landless Agricultural Coolies lead a decent and peaceful life.
Sirumalai is a region of 60,000 acres situated 25 km from Dindigul and 90 km from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. There are many high hills in the area and it consists of two districts areas of Dindigul and Madurai. Sirumalai is a dense forest region with a moderate climate throughout the year. The famous Sirumalai banana is slowly disappearing from disease. For few decades farmers from Sirumalai of Madurai District used to work isolated in their own small farm in a disorganized manner. Activites
In the beginning, CRED has met the farmers in Sirumalai and Vadipatti during the village meetings. In the meeting itself CRED tried to address the issues of small and marginal farmers. The production of exotic hill banana, considered superior to other banana varieties in nutrition and taste, is in Sirumalai Hills which is the only place where it is grown.
